Reports on the issues of the political debate between parties show that there has been a change on the issues discussed in Spain from 2011 to 2015. However, the extent to which these issues have changed the political space of electoral competition has not been tested. Neither is, the role that the two new parties have had on it. This paper tests the extent to which the electoral volatility observed in 2015 and 2016 in Spain was due to the emergence of new issues. It does so using panel data from POLAT project and the Comparative Manifesto Project that allows differentiating changes in the attitudes or perceptions from changes in their behaviours.
